A flying February for Frome Running Club

February got off to a hilly start, with the Doynton Hard Half on 2 February. Two Frome runners took to the starting line of this challenging 13.1-mile trail race. Emma Surridge (FV40) was first to finish in 02:19:22, followed by Ian Holmes (MV50) in 02:39:34. Frome at The Wiltshire 10 The following Sunday, 9 February, two more Frome runners headed over to Melksham for the Wiltshire 10, a ten-mile road race that follows a gently undulating course through Wiltshire. Alexander Fisher (MV40) crossed the line for Frome first in a speedy time of 01:06:38. Hot on his heels was Claire Bowles (FSEN) who posted a blistering time of 01:09:57. The Street 5K Wednesday 12 February saw the next race in the 2024/25 Street 5K series. This edition was the penultimate event in the season, more than enough reason for some of Frome’s finest to put their 5K racing skills to the test. Racing away the January blues

January got off to a stormy start for Frome Running Club. But snow, hail and race cancellations didn’t dampen the spirits of club runners who eagerly took to the starting lines of a number of local events. First to kick off the action was Daniel Thomson (MSEN), who took part in the Sir Walter Raleigh Third race on Saturday, January 4. Starting and finishing in the coastal town of Budleigh Salterton in Devon, this 8.4-mile route (third of a marathon) visited the birthplace of Sir Walter Raleigh and the countryside where he spent time as a child. Frome at the Bromham Pudding Run Frome Running Club enjoyed an active run-up to the holiday season, kicking the festivities off right from day one with the Bromham Pudding Run on Sunday, 1 December. The club fielded a large team for this perennial favourite, a fast, flat, two-lap 10K race on the roads around the Wiltshire village of Bromham. First past the post for Frome was Alexander Fisher (MV40), who posted a time of 00:40:41. Hot on his heels was Keith Vance (MV40) with a time of 00:43:36. Keith was followed by Emma Surridge (FV40) in 00:44:50 (second in age category), Claire Bowles (FSEN) in 00:45:35, and David Lee (MV40) in 00:45:40. Ben Spicer (MV40) was next past the post in 00:47:01, followed by Alan Brawn (MV50) in 00:49:24 and Emma Yeo (FV50) and Nicky Thomas (FV50) both posting times of 00:51:00. A November to remember for Frome Running Club

Over the Hills with FRC November got off to a cracking start on 3rd of the month with the multi-terrain classic Over the Hills. Among the runners gathering Barton Farm County Park in Bradford on Avon was a strong contingent of Frome’s club runners. Dan Gaisford (MV40) was first past the post with a time of 00:53:27. Hot on his heels was Paul Horton (MV50) , who crossed the line in 00:55:16, followed by Claire Bowles (FSEN) in 01:05:58 and Lynn Brand (FV60), whose time of 01:14:02 earned her second in age category. Emma Evans (FV50) finished off the quintet with a time of 01:27:04.  A PB-fest at The Street 5K The racing continued on 13 November with the next installment of the Street 5K series. Frome carry on running through autumn

Frome at the inaugral Mother Tuckers 10K Castle Combe Circuit offers a packed calendar of non-stop white-knuckle action, and Monday 2nd October was no exception with the return of the Castle Combe Max Mile, an officially timed one-mile race on the smooth race track. Alexander Fisher (MV40) placed second in category with a time of 00:05:47, closely followed by David Lee (MV40) in 00:06:10. Just four days later on Sunday 4th December, the inaugral Mother Tuckers 10K race was held. This senic trail race starting and finishing at Tuckers Grave Inn, Faulkland, was well attended by Frome’s club runners. Dan Gaisford was first past the post in a time of 00:47:25, closely followed by Paul Horton in 00:49:17. Emma Surridge finished in 00:53:00 and Ellie Burford in 00:53:13. Next past the post was Ben Spicer in 00:55:15, Sian Meaney in 00:57:23, Andrew Fowler in 00:58:18 and Lynn Brand in 01:01:40. Frome finish the road race season in style

Andrew & Sarah at the Carneval Chase Frome at the Compton Bassett September got off to a monstrous start for Frome Running Club on 1 September with The Beast. A 13-ish-mile trail run starting and finishing Corfe Castle Common. Ian Holmes (MV50) was the first Frome runner to finish in 02:04:01, closely followed by Emma Surridge (FV45), whose time of 02:04:09 earned her 3rd in age category. On the same day, closer to home, three more Frome runners lined up for the Carnival Chase 10K in Warminster. Andrew Smallbone (MV50) sped through the picturesque country lanes to finish in a time of 00:45:01, followed by Sarah Smallbone (FV50) in 00:52:59 and Kayleigh Philips (FSEN) in 01:02:31. The following weekend, there was more racing action with the Compton Bassett 5, race number six in the Wiltshire Road Race League. Packed August full of races

Frome runners at the Hilly Helmet Challenge August was a busy month for Frome runners with lots of races of varying distances for local athletes to put themselves to the test. The month got off to a good start with the Bedford Marathon, an eight-lap race around Bedford Autodrome. Two Frome runners took to the starting line here, with Ian Holmes (MV55) finishing first for the club in 03:54:25, followed by Emma Surridge (FV45) in 03:57:11 (second in age category). Three days later, on 7 August, more Frome runners lined up for local classic The Hilly Helmet Challenge, a hilly, four-ish mile mixed terrain race in support of Brain Tumour Support. Ben Spicer (MV40) crossed the finish line first in 00:37:15, followed by Emma Surridge (FV45) in 00:37:24 and Dave Perrett (MV45) in 00:48:57.
