Frome carry on running through autumn

Frome at the inaugral Mother Tuckers 10K Castle Combe Circuit offers a packed calendar of non-stop white-knuckle action, and Monday 2nd October was no exception with the return of the Castle Combe Max Mile, an officially timed one-mile race on the smooth race track. Alexander Fisher (MV40) placed second in category with a time of 00:05:47, closely followed by David Lee (MV40) in 00:06:10. Just four days later on Sunday 4th December, the inaugral Mother Tuckers 10K race was held. This senic trail race starting and finishing at Tuckers Grave Inn, Faulkland, was well attended by Frome’s club runners. Dan Gaisford was first past the post in a time of 00:47:25, closely followed by Paul Horton in 00:49:17. Emma Surridge finished in 00:53:00 and Ellie Burford in 00:53:13. Next past the post was Ben Spicer in 00:55:15, Sian Meaney in 00:57:23, Andrew Fowler in 00:58:18 and Lynn Brand in 01:01:40. Frome finish the road race season in style

Andrew & Sarah at the Carneval Chase Frome at the Compton Bassett September got off to a monstrous start for Frome Running Club on 1 September with The Beast. A 13-ish-mile trail run starting and finishing Corfe Castle Common. Ian Holmes (MV50) was the first Frome runner to finish in 02:04:01, closely followed by Emma Surridge (FV45), whose time of 02:04:09 earned her 3rd in age category. On the same day, closer to home, three more Frome runners lined up for the Carnival Chase 10K in Warminster. Andrew Smallbone (MV50) sped through the picturesque country lanes to finish in a time of 00:45:01, followed by Sarah Smallbone (FV50) in 00:52:59 and Kayleigh Philips (FSEN) in 01:02:31. The following weekend, there was more racing action with the Compton Bassett 5, race number six in the Wiltshire Road Race League. Packed August full of races

Frome runners at the Hilly Helmet Challenge August was a busy month for Frome runners with lots of races of varying distances for local athletes to put themselves to the test. The month got off to a good start with the Bedford Marathon, an eight-lap race around Bedford Autodrome. Two Frome runners took to the starting line here, with Ian Holmes (MV55) finishing first for the club in 03:54:25, followed by Emma Surridge (FV45) in 03:57:11 (second in age category). Three days later, on 7 August, more Frome runners lined up for local classic The Hilly Helmet Challenge, a hilly, four-ish mile mixed terrain race in support of Brain Tumour Support. Ben Spicer (MV40) crossed the finish line first in 00:37:15, followed by Emma Surridge (FV45) in 00:37:24 and Dave Perrett (MV45) in 00:48:57. July got off to a speedy start for Frome Running Club on Tuesday, 9 July with race three in the fast, flat Westbury 5K series. Frome once again put in a solid performance with Alexander Fisher (MV40) leading the pack with a time of 00:19:15. Hot on his heels was Alan Brawn (MV50), who posted a time of 00:20:42. Next to finish was Ellie Burford (FSEN) in a speedy 00:22:03, followed by Jo Fordham (FV50) in 00:22:43 and Barry Knight (MV70), whose time of 00:24:30 earned him second in age category. On Saturday, 14 July, intrepid Frome runner Paul Horton (MV55-59) headed for the hills to take part in the Snowdonia Trail Marathon. Ascending 1,685 metres over 27 miles, this gruelling race takes runners around and up Mount Snowdon. Paul put in a stellar performance, posting a time of 05:25:50 to earn first place in age category. Summer fun for Frome Running Club

June was another jam-packed period for Frome Running Club. The month kicked off in style with the Bath Two Tunnels on 2 June, a 10K race that takes runners through the pedestrianised Devonshire and Combe Down Tunnels near Bath. Alexaner Fisher (MV40) completed the route in a speedy 00:41:18, while Anne Denholm (FV60) crossed the line in 01:01:23. Alex was back in action just a few days later along with fellow Fromies Dave Williams (M60-64) and David Lee(MV45-49) at the DB Max Mile, a one-mile race on the smooth, flat surface of Castle Combe race track. Alex posted a time of 00:05:25, closely followed by Dave Williams in 00:05:42 (2nd in age category) and David Lee in 00:05:48 (first in age category). On Saturday 8 June, Sian Meaney took to the start line of another long distance challenge, this time the South Downs Way 100, a one-hundred mile race taking in the entire South Downs Way National Trail. Andrew and Sarah at Sutton Veny 10K May got off to a short, sharp start for Frome Running Club with the DB Max Mile on Tuesday, 2 May. Two of Frome’s finest took to the start line of this free, chip-timed race covering just one mile at the Castle Combe race track. Alexander Fisher (MV40) posted a speedy time of 00:05:28 while Ellie Burford (FSEN) finished in a blistering 00:06:21. Sunday, 6 May, saw the return of the Sutton Veny 10K, a great mixed terrain event starting and finishing at Sutton Veny cricket club in the Wylye valley. Andrew Smallbone (MV50) crossed the line in 00:50:35 to secure 4th position overall, while Sarah Smallbone (FV50) finished in 01:06:00. The busy racing month continued two days later, on Tuesday 8 May, with the Yeovilton 5K, a fast, flat course with PB potential. This was the first race in a series of six. And they’re off! Marathon season gets underway for Frome Running Club

Frome at the Yeovilton 5K April saw Frome runners take to the starting lines of numerous marathons at home and abroad. A host of local classics offered plenty of options for runners looking for shorter distances too. Daniel Thomson got the month off to an explosive start with the Powderham Power Run in Devon on Saturday, 6 April. Daniel completed the ten-mile multi-terrain race around the grounds of Powderham Castle in an impressive time of 01:32:14. The following day, Sarah and Jason Burns took to the streets of France’s capital for the Paris Marathon. Sarah (FV40) finished in a brilliant time of 03:45:40 followed by Jason (MV50) in 04:21:59. Sunday 7 April also saw the return of the Bratton Hilly, a picturesque, multi-terrain 11K run up and down the Westbury white horse.
