Action-packed June for Frome Running Club

June saw some incredible performances from Frome Running Club members, under at times challenging conditions with high temperatures throughout the month.  Westbury 5K Things got off to a speedy start on 1 June with the Gloucester 10K. Frome runner Daniel Thomson (MSEN) took to the starting line in the historic town of Crewkerne, finishing in 00:45:25. The next highlight in the June calendar was the AVR Westbury 5K, the second in the 2025 series of four races, and race 3 in the Wiltshire Road Race League. Frome fielded a strong team with Alexander Fisher (MV40) finishing first in 00:18:05, followed by Daniel Thomson (MSEN) in 00:20:24, Keith Vance (MV50) in 00:20:34, and Barrie Knight (MV70), whose time of 00:23:29 earned him first in age category. Jess Jones-Hutchings (FSEN) was next to finish in 00:24:09, followed by Ella Kempshall (FSEN) 00:25:07 and Megan King (FSEN) in 00:25:17. Running challenges near and far for Frome Running Club in May

May’s racing challenges started on Saturday 10th with the Semington Slog, a 10K mixed-terrain race through the village of Semington and the along the Kennet & Avon Canal. First to finish for Frome was Alexander Fisher (MV40), whose time of 00:40:07 earned him 4th position overall and 2nd in category. Peter Reed (MV50) finished in 00:46:43 for second in age category, and Peter Clardy (MV60) also scored second in age category with his time of 00:54:18. On the same day, Frome runner Ian Holmes (MV50) took to the Ridgeway National Trail to take part in the Ridgeway 40, a 40-mile trail race from Avebury to Streatley-on-Thames. Ian completed the feat in 09:06:05. On the same Saturday, two more Frome stalwarts lined up for the West Country Ultra Hilly 50, a fifty-mile trail race along the North Somerset coast taking in 7337ft of elevation. Frome goes full throttle in April

The Yeovilton 5K April started strong for Frome Running Club with the Bristol Track Club Race Day on Sunday, 6 April at the Odd Down Cycle Track. Alex Fisher (MV45) and Peter Clardy (MV65) both took to the starting line of the 5K race, with Alex posting a time of 00:18:50 and Peter 00:23:30. The following Wednesday, 9 April, saw the start of Yeovilton 5K series. Lining up for race one in the six-race series were Alexander Fisher (MV40), who posted at time of 00:18:17, Daniel Thomson (MSEN), who crossed the line in 00:20:19, followed by David Lee (MV40) in 00:21:06 and Brett Sadler (MV70), whose time of 00:24:47 earned him second in age category. The Lightning Bolt 10K The next racing challenge was just a few days later on Sunday, 13 April, with the Langley Burrell Lightning Bolt 10K race on one of the fastest 10K courses in the South West. Busy March for Frome runners

Frome at the Spring 10 Mile Always a busy running month, March saw a slew of challenges for Frome’s club runners, with distances to satisfy long- and short-distance fans. First off, on Sunday, 2 March, was local classic The Imber Ultra, a 33 ½-mile multi-terrain ultramarathon taking runners around the Imber Range Perimeter Path. A hardy band of Frome runners took to the starting line with Paul Horton (MV50) crossing the finish line first for the club in 05:18:39. He was followed by Sian Meaney (FSEN) in 05:57:57 and Vicki Trundle (FV40) in 07:26:21. On the same day, more of Frome’s finest lined up for the Chippenham Spring 10 Mile a fast, flat 10 mile route through the town and surrounding country roads. A flying February for Frome Running Club

February got off to a hilly start, with the Doynton Hard Half on 2 February. Two Frome runners took to the starting line of this challenging 13.1-mile trail race. Emma Surridge (FV40) was first to finish in 02:19:22, followed by Ian Holmes (MV50) in 02:39:34. Frome at The Wiltshire 10 The following Sunday, 9 February, two more Frome runners headed over to Melksham for the Wiltshire 10, a ten-mile road race that follows a gently undulating course through Wiltshire. Alexander Fisher (MV40) crossed the line for Frome first in a speedy time of 01:06:38. Hot on his heels was Claire Bowles (FSEN) who posted a blistering time of 01:09:57. The Street 5K Wednesday 12 February saw the next race in the 2024/25 Street 5K series. This edition was the penultimate event in the season, more than enough reason for some of Frome’s finest to put their 5K racing skills to the test. Racing away the January blues

January got off to a stormy start for Frome Running Club. But snow, hail and race cancellations didn’t dampen the spirits of club runners who eagerly took to the starting lines of a number of local events. First to kick off the action was Daniel Thomson (MSEN), who took part in the Sir Walter Raleigh Third race on Saturday, January 4. Starting and finishing in the coastal town of Budleigh Salterton in Devon, this 8.4-mile route (third of a marathon) visited the birthplace of Sir Walter Raleigh and the countryside where he spent time as a child. Frome at the Bromham Pudding Run Frome Running Club enjoyed an active run-up to the holiday season, kicking the festivities off right from day one with the Bromham Pudding Run on Sunday, 1 December. The club fielded a large team for this perennial favourite, a fast, flat, two-lap 10K race on the roads around the Wiltshire village of Bromham. First past the post for Frome was Alexander Fisher (MV40), who posted a time of 00:40:41. Hot on his heels was Keith Vance (MV40) with a time of 00:43:36. Keith was followed by Emma Surridge (FV40) in 00:44:50 (second in age category), Claire Bowles (FSEN) in 00:45:35, and David Lee (MV40) in 00:45:40. Ben Spicer (MV40) was next past the post in 00:47:01, followed by Alan Brawn (MV50) in 00:49:24 and Emma Yeo (FV50) and Nicky Thomas (FV50) both posting times of 00:51:00.
