From one to 26 - a month of all distances for Frome runners in May

Andrew and Sarah at Sutton Veny 10K May got off to a short, sharp start for Frome Running Club with the DB Max Mile on Tuesday, 2 May. Two of Frome’s finest took to the start line of this free, chip-timed race covering just one mile at the Castle Combe race track. Alexander Fisher (MV40) posted a speedy time of 00:05:28 while Ellie Burford (FSEN) finished in a blistering 00:06:21. Sunday, 6 May, saw the return of the Sutton Veny 10K, a great mixed terrain event starting and finishing at Sutton Veny cricket club in the Wylye valley. Andrew Smallbone (MV50) crossed the line in 00:50:35 to secure 4th position overall, while Sarah Smallbone (FV50) finished in 01:06:00. The busy racing month continued two days later, on Tuesday 8 May, with the Yeovilton 5K, a fast, flat course with PB potential. This was the first race in a series of six. And they’re off! Marathon season gets underway for Frome Running Club

Frome at the Yeovilton 5K April saw Frome runners take to the starting lines of numerous marathons at home and abroad. A host of local classics offered plenty of options for runners looking for shorter distances too. Daniel Thomson got the month off to an explosive start with the Powderham Power Run in Devon on Saturday, 6 April. Daniel completed the ten-mile multi-terrain race around the grounds of Powderham Castle in an impressive time of 01:32:14. The following day, Sarah and Jason Burns took to the streets of France’s capital for the Paris Marathon. Sarah (FV40) finished in a brilliant time of 03:45:40 followed by Jason (MV50) in 04:21:59. Sunday 7 April also saw the return of the Bratton Hilly, a picturesque, multi-terrain 11K run up and down the Westbury white horse. David Alsford (FV50) crossed the line for Frome in 01:00:05, closely followed by Lynn Brand (FV60), whose time of 01:06:15 earned her first in age category. Spring is in the air for Frome runners

Chippenham Spring 10 Mile The month started in style on Sunday 3 March with the Chippenham Spring 10 Mile, which starts and finishes in Monkton Park in the heart of Chippenham. James Arnall-Culliford (MV40) was first to finish for Frome Running Club, posting an impressive time of 01:06:53. Next past the post was Alan Brawn (MV50) in 01:18:46 followed by Ben Spicer (MV40) in 01:21:00. Castle Combe Chilly 10K The following Sunday, Alex Fisher (MV40) was in action at the Castle Combe Chilly 10K putting in a PB performance of 00:41:28. Just three days later, Alex posted another PB in Street at the last race in the 2023/24 Street 5K series, comfortably breaking the 20 minute mark with a time of 00:19:51. Hot on his heels were David Lee (MV40) in 00:21:11 and Daniel Thomson (MSEN) in 00:21:38. Frome runners put the perfect finish on a soggy February

Frome at the Street 5K Nestled in the Somerset Levels, the village of Street offers the ideal conditions for the fast, flat 5K series of races organised by Wells City Harriers. On Wednesday, 14 February, a hardy bunch of Frome runners celebrated Valentine’s Day by taking to the starting line of the penultimate race in the 2023/24 Street series. Alexander Fisher (MV40) was first past the post with a blistering time of 00:20:02, closely followed by David Lee (MV40) in 00:21:19. Brett Sadler (MV60) crossed the line in 00:23:33 with Daniel Thomson (MSEN) following in 00:23:38. Four days later, on Sunday, 18 February, David Alsford (MV50) took part in the SMartt Smasher 10k, a flat multi-terrain traffic-free 10k run along the picturesque national cycle network from Calne to Stanley, near Chippenham. A hilly start to 2024 for Frome Running Club

Slaughterford 9 Longleat 10K 2024 got off to a strong start for Frome Running Club with two favourites fixtures in the racing calendar in January. First up was the Slaughterford 9, an approximately nine-mile multi-terrain race starting and finishing in Corsham, comprising steeply undulating countryside with a brutal hill at the end. Frome fielded a team of six runners to take on the challenging route. Paul Horton (MV50) finished first for the club in a time of 01:08:12, bagging fifth in age category. Hot on his heels was Ronan Ferguson (MSEN) in 01:09:10, followed by Emma Surridge (FV40) in 01:18:35 (3rd in age category), Ben Spicer (MV40) in 01:26:43, Emma Evans (FV40) in 01:44:27 and Lynn Brand (FV60) in 01:47:16 (2nd in age category). On the same day over in Longleat, another six Frome runners took on the steep hills of the Longleat 10K. Alexander Fisher (MV40) led the pack with a speedy time of 00:42:54. Frome runners finish the year in style

Frome Running Club runners put the perfect finish on a busy year of running posting some great results in December 2023.  Things kicked off on 3 December with an annual favourite The Bromham Pudding Run. This fast, flat 10k race takes competitors twice around the village of Bromham. Frome fielded a strong team with Alexander Fisher (MV40) first past the post in 00:41:44. He was closely followed by Keith Vance (MV40) in 00:43:30 and David Lee (MV40) in 00:44:00. Hot on his heels came Andrew Smallbone (MV50), finishing in 00:44:52, followed by Barrie Knight (MV70), whose time of 00:49:38 earned him 2nd in age category, and Christopher Steele in 00:53:04. The following weekend saw two Frome stalwarts competing in the Westonbirt 10k. Starting at Westonbirt House, this beautiful route takes runners through the different areas of the National Arboretum. November continued to be busy month for Frome running club with a plethora of local races. Undeterred by the storms and rain that characterised much of the month, Frome runners kept on racing, starting with the Bath Skyline Night Race on Saturday 18 November. This 10km trail run is held at night on the hill top Skyline route taking in woodland trails, open meadows and iconic landmarks above the city of Bath. Emma Surridge (FV40-49) took to the starting line for Frome, posting a time of 00:54:50 to bag third in age category and fifth woman overall. The following day, three more brave souls lined up for the Castle Combe Chilly 10k at the famous Castle Combe race circuit. Alexander Fisher (MV40-44) was first to finish for Frome in 00:42:50. Hot on his heels was Ben Spicer (MV40-44) in 00:48:52, followed by Claire Dunning (FSEN) in 01:03:40.
