The hills are alive - with the sound of runners

February got off to a picturesque start with the Bath Skyline series of races on 10 February. The 5k and 10k races take runners through the skyline hills overlooking Bath. Stunning views were in short supply, however, for the hardy souls who braved the night race. David White from Frome Running Club completed the 5K challenge in the dark in 00:28:26 while Stephen Ratcliffe finished the 10k race in 00:59:55. The following day, David and Stephen were on form again. David completed the 5K route in daylight in 00:27:02, earning him second position overall and first in category, and Stephen finished the 10K route in 00:59:55.

Sunday, 11 February also saw the return of a perennial favourite, the Wiltshire 10. Starting and finishing in Melksham, this ten-mile course follows an undulating route through rural Wiltshire. Peter Grist (MSEN) was the first Frome Club runner to cross the line. His impressive time of 00:55:37 earned him third position overall. Hot on his heels was Joseph Donworth (MSEN) in 00:58:55, followed by Lee Stone (MV40) in 01:02:36, Peter Larman (MV40) in 1:07:10 and Stuart Clarke (MV40) in 01:07:33. Katherine Uphill (FSEN) was the first Frome lady to finish in a time of 01:07:44 (PB). She was followed by Luke Oakes (MSEN) in 01:09:06, Peter Reed (MSEN) in 01:15:48 (PB), Zoe Daly (FSEN) in 01:21:17, Laura Ryan (FSEN) in 01:21:59 and Lynn Brand (FV50) in 01:24:24. Chapper Boulton (MV50) followed soon after in 01:28:44, Ruth Squires (FSEN) in 01:31:28, Sally Brooker (FV50) in 01:34:20 and Anne Porter (FV60) in 01:35:17 (PB).

Over in Dorset, club runner Laura Francis (FV40) took to the streets of Poole for the Lytchett 10. Laura completed the ten-mile road race in a personal best time of 01:33:20.
