Busy midsummer schedule for Frome’s club runners

As the year slowly moved to its longest day and temperatures rose ever higher, there was no let-up in races for Frome’s athletes looking for challenges both near and far afield. On a hot, sunny evening on 12 June, Gary Eagle (MV50) lined up with over 500 runners to compete in the Clevedon Midsummer 10K. His impressive time of 00:38:04 earned him 3rd position in category. On the same day, local athletes were able to enjoy another fast, flat course with plenty of PB potential in the form of the Heddington 5K. Peter Grist (MSEN) put on an impressive performance, posting a time of 00:16:43, which earned him 2nd position overall and 1st in category. He was closely followed by Peter Reed (MV40), who completed the course in a PB-time of 00:20:53. The Yeovilton 5K was another short, sharp mid-week race for local runners. Frome Running Club gears up for summer with local races

June got off to a blistering start for Frome Running Club with the Chippenham 5-mile road race. Five Frome club runners braced high temperatures to take part in the event on Sunday, 3 June. Peter Grist (MSEN) finished first for the club, posting a time of 00:28:07 to bag 4th position overall. Ted Sprules (MV60-69) crossed the line in 00:33:27, closely followed by Peter Reed (MV40-49) in 00:36:08. Anne Porter (FV55-64) finished in 00:48:56, followed by Paddy Mead (MSEN) in 00:49:45. This was the third race in the Wiltshire Road Race League. Frome Running Club is currently joint 10th in Division A and joint 18th in Division B. The following Sunday, more runners lined up for the Yeovil Half Marathon, a flat, fast two-lap course around the villages surrounding RNAS Yeovilton, just outside of Yeovil. Two Frome runners posted impressive times, with Nick Cooper (MV50) storming home in a time of 03:28:25, followed by Harry Ebdon (MV50), who crossed the line in 04:32:02. The same d

​ ​ ​ ​ Soaring temperatures didn't deter Frome’s club runners from putting in stellar performances in races both near and far from home in the last half of May. The Westbury 5K on Tuesday, 15 May, gave local athletes the chance to participate in a mid-week evening race that follows a flat course over three laps. This was the first of a series of four races to be held throughout the summer. Joseph Donworth stormed home for Frome in an impressive time of 00:16:53 to bag fourth position overall. He was closely followed by Gary Eagle in 00:19:09 and Peter Reed in 00:20:55. Saturday, 19 May offered up a challenge of a different kind with the Albion Running West Country Ultra Flat 50. Vicki Trundle completed this 50-mile, off-road course from Taunton to Minehead in a time of 12:30:00. The following day saw the return of the Dilton Dash, a popular multi-terrain 10K race starting and finishing in the village of Dilton Marsh. Ted Sprules was first to finish for Frome in a time of
