Frome Running Club gears up for summer with local races

June got off to a blistering start for Frome Running Club with the Chippenham 5-mile road race. Five Frome club runners braced high temperatures to take part in the event on Sunday, 3 June. Peter Grist (MSEN) finished first for the club, posting a time of 00:28:07 to bag 4th position overall. Ted Sprules (MV60-69) crossed the line in 00:33:27, closely followed by Peter Reed (MV40-49) in 00:36:08. Anne Porter (FV55-64) finished in 00:48:56, followed by Paddy Mead (MSEN) in 00:49:45. This was the third race in the Wiltshire Road Race League. Frome Running Club is currently joint 10th in Division A and joint 18th in Division B.

The following Sunday, more runners lined up for the Yeovil Half Marathon, a flat, fast two-lap course around the villages surrounding RNAS Yeovilton, just outside of Yeovil. Two Frome runners posted impressive times, with Nick Cooper (MV50) storming home in a time of 03:28:25, followed by Harry Ebdon (MV50), who crossed the line in 04:32:02.

The same day saw the return of the Chew Valley 10K. Starting and finishing in Bishop Sutton, this 10-kilometer route follows rural roads in the shadow of the Mendip Hills before climbing uphill to Hinton Blewitt to reward runners with views out over the Chew Valley. Pete Larman (MV45) posted a time of 00:41:24 and came in third in category. He was followed by Jan Lake (FV50), who posted a time of 01:03:51.
