Action-packed start to October for Frome Running Club

Frome Runners at the Clarendon Half Marathon
Sunday, October 7 saw a small contingent of the town’s runners line up for the Westbury Lions 10K, a multi-terrain race taking participants out along the lower slopes of the White Horse. Ted Sprules (MVET) was the first to finish for Frome, his time of 00:40:59 earning him 9th position overall and 2nd in category. He was closely followed by Andrew Smallbone (MVET), who posted a time of 00:41:29 to finish 10th overall and 3rd in category. Sarah Smallbone (FVET) finished in 00:49:33 to earn 2nd in category and Nigel Williams crossed the line in 00:57:25.  Salisbury Half Marathon was also held on October 7. This very flat, two lap course takes runners through the streets of Salisbury and has plenty of potential for personal bests. Joseph Donworth (MV30) stormed home for Frome in 01:16:27, finishing 8th overall and 5th in category. Peter Reed (MV40) crossed the line in 01:44:48, followed by Anne Porter (FV60) in 02:02:19, whose time earned her 3rd position in category. Salisbury Half was the 9th race in the Wiltshire Road Race League. Frome Running Club’s A team is in joint seventh in Division A, while Team B is 15th in Division B. 

October 7 also saw the return of the Clarendon Half Marathon. Lynn Brand (F57) finished in a time of 02:05:31, followed by Sara Elliott (F57) in 02:35:19, Sally Brooker (F52) in 02:35:19, Felicity Young (F54) in 02:39:35 and Rebecca Webb (F34) in 02:56:33. Yet more Frome runners made the trip to Bournemouth for the city’s Half Marathon. Ben Spicer (MV35) crossed the line in 01:44:07, followed by Julie Chilvers in 01:52:57 and Christopher Fleming (MV50) in 02:08:44. Frome athlete Kat Uphill (FSEN) took part in the Burnham-on-Sea Half Marathon on the same day. Her time of 01:28:42 earning her first position in category. 

The following Sunday saw more Frome runners putting in sterling performances. Helen Bakunowicz and Clare Dunning took part in the Exeter Half Marathon, posting times of 02:14:45 and 02:14:57 respectively. Peter Grist and Kat Uphill put the perfect finish on the first half of the month at the Grittleton 10K on October 14. Peter’s time of 00:34:45 saw him take 3rd position overall and 3rd in category while Kat’s time of 00:39:41 saw her cross the line as the first woman and first in category.
