Frome runners jingle all the way through town

Anyone who happened to be in Frome Town centre on Sunday 16 December was treated to a very Christmassy sight as over 50 members and friends of Frome Running Club made their way through town decked out in seasonal fancy dress. This year, Frome Running Club’s annual Jingle Bell Jog was renamed Dawn’s Jingle Bell Jog in memory of club member Dawn Prior, who recently passed away from cancer. The club opened up this year’s event to non-club members, inviting anyone who had known Dawn to take part in the run and help raise funds for Friends of Frome Hospital, a charity close to Dawn and her partner Ashley’s heart. An impressive 53 people turned out to run the 4.8-mile route through town. Each runner had to estimate the time they believed they would complete the route in, and prizes were awarded for the most accurate estimates. Prizes were also awarded for the best fancy dress. Clare Dunning and Ali Smith made the most accurate predictions about their time and were duly rewarded with wine and chocolate. Marcus Gaffney and Lorraine Muers won prizes for the best fancy dress. Plenty of food was on hand to aid recovery after the race and a raffle was also held. In total, the club was able to raise an impressive £197.05 for the Friends of Frome Hospital. The club also held a draw for its London Marathon place. Anne Porter was the lucky winner who received the “golden ticket” to run in the capital on 29 April next year.

Frome Running Club offers both on and off-road training and welcomes new members, whatever the ability. For more details, visit www.fromerunningclub.co.uk.
