Impressive podium positions for Frome Running Club

The town of Glastonbury is known for its ancient Medieval sites and mystical myths. However, every year in May, it’s also a highlight in the local running calendar, hosting the Glastonbury 10K race. Christopher Steele (MV55) took to the starting line for Frome, crossing the line in 00:52:37. He was followed by Iain Brownlie (MV45) in 01:00:58. On the same day over in Southampton, Joseph Donworth (MSEN) was on top form for the Southampton Marathon, finishing second overall in a time of 02:43:04. Frome runner Susi Ross (FSEN) participated in the Southampton 10K on the same day, crossing the line in 00:58:58. Sunday 5 May was also the day of the Bristol 10K. Frome stalwart Ali Smith completed the course in 00:55:44, closely followed by Claire Dunning in 00:57:57. There was no let-up for local runners on the Bank Holiday Monday with the return of the Sutton Veny 10K. Pete Larman (Over50s) was the first Frome club runner to cross the line. His time of 00:41:41 earned him first position in category and fifth overall. He was followed by Andrew Smallbone (Over50s) in 00:42:52, who finished second in category and sixth overall. Ted Sprules (Over50s) crossed the line in 00:43:40 to bag third in category and eighth position overall. Jo Fordham (Under50s) was the first woman to finish for Frome, posting a time of 00:50:18. Sarah Smallbone (Over50s) finished in 00:51:44 to bag first in category, followed by Helen James (Under50s) in 01:00:14. Another Frome runner, Alex Chesterton, was in action in the village of Little Bredy, Dorset, for the Hellstone Marathon, completing the challenging trail run in 05:31:51. Marcus Gaffney and Lucy Gaffney took part in the Hellstone Half Marathon on the same day, posting times of 02:24:38 and 02:37:37 respectively. On Saturday 11 May, Harry Ebdon took part in the Ox Frolic Marathon in the Rushmore Estate in Dorset, completing the off-road route in 05:16:33. On the same day, a number of Frome runners lined up for the Immortal 10K in Stourhead. Andrew Smallbone (MV50-59) led the field for Frome, finishing first in category with a time of 00:43:06. He was followed by Zoe Daly (F30-39), whose time of in 00:51:03 earned her third in category. Next to finish was Sarah Smallbone (FV50-59), who bagged third in category with her time of 00:51:15. She was followed by Laura Ryder (FV40-49) in 00:55:01, Chapper Boulton (MV50-59) in 00:55:52 and Susi Ross (F20-29) in 01:01:42. Frome runner Mark Lee made his way to the Brecon Beacons for the Brecon Beacons Trail Ultra, completing the 32.8-mile route in a time of 07:00:02. Sunday, 12 May saw the return of local favourite the Jack n Jill Challenge in Radstock. Frome fielded a strong contingent, with Giles Padfield (MV40) finishing in 00:55:51, Ian Holmes (MV50) in 00:59:42, Richard Turner (MV40) in 01:07:12 and Emma Evans (FV40) in 01:11:39. Dave Perrett (MV40) was next to finish in 01:15:21, followed by Helen James (FSEN) in 01:15:29 and Clare Dunning (FSEN) in 01:17:46. Over in Wiltshire, Anne Porter (FV60) took part in the Hullavington Half Marathon, where she posted a time of 02:07:35. While in Bath, Paul Waterer (M20-29) completed the Two Tunnels Half Marathon in a time of 02:01:10.
