Winning times at local races for Frome Running Club

July got off to a cracking start for Frome runners with the Ham & Lyme 50K race on Saturday, July 6. The challenging route takes in the stunning Liberty Trail from Ham Hill Country Park in Somerset to Lyme Regis in Dorset. This year Sara Elliott and Fiona Norris were flying the flag for Frome at the event . Both Sara and Fiona crossed the line 07:43:56. The following day, Harry Ebdon (M50-59) was in fine form at the Moreton Marathon in Dorset, completing the trail race in 05:35:10. Tuesday 9 July saw the return of the last in the Heddington 5k series of races. Pete Clardy (MV60) lined up for the third race and posted an impressive time of 00:21:24. Runners were offered another weekday treat on Friday 12 July in the form of the Hazelbury Hurrah in Corsham. Four of Frome’s finest lined up for this six-mile, off-road, evening run. Ian Holmes (MV50) was first to finish for the club, posting a time of 00:46:28. Giles Padfield (MV40) was hot on his heels, crossing the line in 00:46:35. Pete Berryman (MV50) finished in 00:50:43 followed by Dave Perrett (MV50) in 01:02:16. On Sunday 14 July, Paul Waterer (MSEN) decided to take his running underground with the Two Tunnels Half Marathon in Bath. He completed the route, which includes over 2 kilometres of running in the old Somerset & Dorset Railway tunnels, in 01:53:09. Two more Frome stalwarts, Paddy Mead (MV40) and Helen James (FSEN) headed over to Ham Hill Country Park on Saturday 20 July for the Ham Hill Sunset 10K. Paddy and Helen crossed the line at almost the same time in 01:09:12 and 01:09:13 respectively.
Sunday 21 July saw the return of the ever-popular Frome Half Marathon. As always, there was a strong turnout from Frome’s club runners. In the Half Marathon distance, Andy Cox (MSEN) crossed the line in 01:28:31, followed by James Arnall-Culliford (M40) in 01:31:08, Anthony Sprules (MV60) in 01:35:01 (1st in category) and Ian Holmes (MV50) in 01:44:16. He was closely followed by Neil Munns (MV50) in 01:47:03, Paul Waterer (MSEN) in 01:52:04 and Julie Chilvers (FV40) in 01:54:41. Eleanor Burford (FSEN) finished in 02:00:30, followed by Richard Riley (MV50) in 02:12:20 and Clare Dunning (FSEN) in 02:23:51. In the 10K race, Gary Eagle (MV60) was the first Frome club runner to cross the line, posting a time of 00:41:44 to finish first in category. Peter Larman (MV50) was next, his time of 00:42:12 earning him second position in category. He was followed by Pete Berryman (MV50) in 00:50:17, Julian Keegan (MV60) in 00:50:30 and Richard Turner (MV40) 00:51:57. Sarah Smallbone (FV50) crossed the line in 00:52:38 to bag first in age category, followed by David Oliver (MSEN) in 00:53:27, Neil Grist (MV50) in 00:59:17, Helen Bakunowicz (FV40) in 01:01:15, Edward Butler (MV40) in 00:59:37 and Peter Lee (MV70) in 01:19:27. In the 5K discipline, Katherine Uphill (FSEN) finished first for Frome Running Club with a time of 00:19:41, which also made her the first female finisher. Caroline Rea (FV40) was hot on her heels with a time of 00:21:34 that earned her first position in category. She was followed by Joanne Fordham (FV40) in 00:22:08, who finished second in category. Samuel Evans (MSEN) crossed the line in 00:23:11, followed by Mary Evans (FSEN) in 00:28:24 and Emma Evans (FV40) in 00:28:25. Nigel Williams (MV60) finished in 00:30:46, followed by Dave Perrett (MV40) in 00:33:28 and Judith Anderson (FV60), whose time of 00:45:25 earned her third in category. Paul Waterer (MSEN) rounded off the month for Frome with the Bath Running Festival. He completed the 16.3-mile off-road course in a PB time of 02:56:24.
