Action-packed start to autumn for Frome Running Club

September got off to a celebratory start with the Warminster Carnival Chase 10K run on Sunday, 1 September. Anne Porter was flying the flag for Frome in this picturesque race and posted a time of 01:00:07. Another Frome runner, Lynn Brand (FV55), was representing the club in London on Wednesday, 4 September at the Chase the Sun Clapham Common 10K race. Lynn’s speedy time of 00:50:45 earned her first position in category. Local favourite the Chippenham Half Marathon returned on Sunday, 8 September. Keith Robinson (MV60-69) was first across the line for Frome in 01:32:36. He was closely followed by Peter Clardy (MV60-69) in 01:38:59. On the same weekend, Frome runner Paul Waterer made the long journey up to Newcastle upon Tyne for the Great North Run. Joining around 57,000 other runners on the route from Newcastle to South Shields, Paul posted a PB time of 01:51:19. Lynn Brand (FV55) was in action again on the 8th, this time at the Ash Excellent 8 in Somerset. Lynn completed the approximately 8-mile, multi-terrain race in 01:11:12, again earning herself first position in category.
The Yeovilton 5K was another mid-week treat for local runners. Jo Fordham (FV45) was racing in red black and gold for Frome on 11 September and posted a speedy PB time of 00:21:46.
On Sunday, 15 September, runners were treated to a tough but scenic 10K route along the coast of the Isle of Purbeck. Paddy Mead completed the Purbeck 10K in 01:11:40 while Helen James finished in 01:11:51, both Paddy and Helen secured 6th position in their respective age categories as a result. 15 September also saw the return of the Tenby Ironman, a gruelling competition where participants must complete a 3.9K swim, a 180.2K bike ride followed by a 42.2K run. Two Frome runners took on this mammoth task. Julie Chilvers crossed the line in 13:16:45 to finish 7th in her age category, while Stuart Stenhouse complete the challenge in an impressive 15:20:29.
