Frome runners chase great results in Autumn

As the nights draw in and the temperatures start to drop, autumn can provide ideal conditions for runners (with the occasional storm thrown in for good measure). Frome’s valiant runners have continued to battle on through wind and rain and occasional autumn sunshine. On Saturday, 21 September, Paddy Mead took part in the Ashton Steeple Chase, a 2.5-mile run over field and stile in west Wiltshire. Paddy completed came 4th overall posting a time of 00:21:48. Sunday, 22 September saw the return of Frome Running Club’s very own Mells Scenic 7. Starting and finishing in the historic village of Mells, this seven-ish mile trail race takes runners out over footpaths, bridleways and quiet country lanes in the beautiful East Somerset countryside. Joseph Donworth (MV35) was the runner to finish for Frome Running Club. His speedy time of 00:45:03 earning him third position overall. Hot on his heels was Mark Lee (MV35) who crossed the line in 00:52:38. He was followed by Paul Waterer (MSEN) in 01:03:52, Lynn Brand (FV55) in 01:06:49 Barrie Knight (MV65) in 01:16:00. Mark Lee was in action again the following weekend – this time slightly further afield at Trail Events Co Snowdon Ultra. Mark completed the 32.4-mile route around Snowdon in an impressive 09:49:53. On Sunday 29th, two of Frome’s finest were competing closer to home in the Devizes 10K race Andrew Smallbone (M50) crossed the line 00:45:38 followed closely by Peter Clardy (M60), who bagged first position in category with a time of 00:47:33. Paddy Mead rounded out the month for the club by participating in the Brinkworth Multi-terrain 10K, posting a time of 01:00:09 for this challenging, undulating route.
