Podium place for Frome Running Club in October

The White Horse Gallop is a challenging 8-mile trail run along bridle paths up to the top of Westbury Hill. The route takes runners out along the Imber Range path and up to the White Horse. Hardy Frome runner Pete Clardy (MV60) took on the lung-busting challenge on Sunday, 20 October, completing the route in 01:05:30. Paul Waterer was flying the flag for Frome on the same day at the 10-mile Great South Run in Portsmouth. Joining around 20,000 other runners, Paul completed the route in a PB time of 01:17:28. The following Saturday, 26 October saw three more brave Fromies travel down to Sussex for one of the biggest off-road marathons in the UK, the Beachy Head Marathon. Alex Chesterton (MV50) was the first to finish for Frome in a time of 05:45:41. Hot on his heels was Giles Padfield (MV40), who posted a time of 05:46:48. He was followed by Dave Perrett (MV40), who crossed the line in 07:25:50. On Sunday, 27 October, local runners were treated to the Shepton Mallet 10k. Ted Sprules (MV60+) completed the picturesque but hilly route in 00:45:29 to bag first position in category. Lynn Brand (F50-59) finished shortly after in 00:52:34, earning herself third in category. Sue Palmer (FV60+) put in a stunning performance to finish in 00:55:49 for second in category. The Calne Clock Challenge also took place on the same Sunday. Joseph Donworth (MSEN) gave a storming performance on the fast, flat course, finishing 3rd overall with a time of 00:34:02. Peter Clardy (MV60) crossed the line in 00:44:53, followed by Adrian Mead (MV40) in 00:56:11 and Helen James (FV35) in 00:56:32.
