Hair-raising results for Frome runners

Frome runners celebrate after the Roundway Revenge
November is usually a time when nature starts to wind down for its long winter hibernation. In terms of facial hair, however, the 11th month of the year is traditionally quite a vibrant time as men across the country commit to growing a moustache to raise funds for men’s health. MoRunning events have been part of the month-long Movember campaign for ten years now and a contingent of Frome runners signed up to the Bristol 10K MoRunning event on Saturday, 10 November. Laura Ryder (FV40) was the first moustachioed Frome Club runner to cross the line in a time of 01:04:33. She was closely followed by Sally Brooker (FV50) in 01:04:34 and Bruce Lockyer (MV50) in 01:10:39. The following Saturday saw more local runners leading a charge up Roundway Hill near Devizes as part of the Roundway Revenge 8-mile trail run. Peter Clardy (MV60) was the first Frome Club runner to cross the line in a time of 01:10:57, which earned him 1st position in category. Hot on his heels was Lynn Brand (FV50), whose time of 01:17:20 also earned her 1st position in her category. Emma Evans (FV45) finished a short time later in 01:27:33.
Lynn was in action again the follow Sunday, 24 November, in the Castle Combe Chilly 10K, an officially measured 10k run over a flat, smooth, running surface on the famous Castle Combe race circuit. Anthony Sprules (supervet60) crossed the finish line first for Frome, his time of 00:42:58 securing 1st position in category. Lynn Brand (supervet) was next to cross the line, posting a time of 00:48:42 that earned her 4th position in category. Sue Palmer (supervet60) posted a time of 00:51:30, she was followed by Barrie Knight (supervet60) in 00:51:36 and Ali Smith (supervet60) in 00:54:49.
