Mud thrills and hills for Frome runners

Frome runners at Plain Crazy
December got off to a cracking start with the ever popular Bromham Pudding Run on Sunday, 1 December. This flat, fast 10k race around the village of Bromham in Wiltshire rewards all participants with a Christmas pudding for their efforts as well as the chance for a PB time. And Frome’s runners didn’t disappoint. Jo Fordham (FV45) racked up a new PB time for a 10K race, completing the course in 00:44:36. She was followed by Lynn Brand (FV55) in 00:49:33 and Chris Steele (MV50) in 00:52:21. During the run-up to Christmas, Harry Ebdon found time to take on a major challenge in the form of the Portsmouth Coastal Ultra Marathon. This 50k multi-terrain route offers fantastic views across Langstone Harbour and gives participants plenty of opportunity to work up an appetite for their Christmas dinner. Harry completed the challenging route in 05:52:35. Frome’s club runners were back in action on the weekend after Christmas too at Plain Crazy in Warminster on 29 December. This 12.5-ish-mile route takes runners out towards the Westbury White Horse and Imber ranges. Andrew Smallbone was first to cross the line for Frome, posting a time of 01:40:58. Hot on his heels were Ian Holmes, who posted a time of 01:43:15 and Peter Clardy, who crossed the line in 01:48:46. Lynn Brand was next past the post in 02:05:26, followed by Sara Elliott and Barrie Knight, who finished together in 02:05:27. Frome’s finest also saw the New Year in in style, starting with the Rough n’ Tumble ten-miler on 12 January. Starting and finishing in Milton Lilbourne, Wiltshire, the challenging trail route takes runners along picturesque footpaths and tracks in the surrounding countryside. Ian Holmes (MV50-59) finished in 01:36:02 to bag first position in category, followed by Victoria Penman (FV40-49) in 01:40:21 and Lynn Brand (FV 50-59) in 01:56:54. Peter Clardy (MV60-69) was also flying the flag for Frome on the 12 at the Bath Skyline 10k. His time of 00:57:12 earned him first position in category.
