Frome Runners Spring Into Action

With Covid restrictions easing and the weather proving a little kinder, Frome runners have enjoyed competing in races around the locality.

Dubbed ‘one of Britain’s poshest race venues, White Star Running returned to the Wiltshire Downs for the annual Spring Larmer Tree Races on the 5th March. The Rushmore Estate hosted 5 ‘epic’ trail races (that is, steep climbs and sharp descents, or just plain ‘hilly’ as it is known in the trade) as well as being muddy underfoot.

Dave Perrett (M40) ran the Spring Larmer 10 miler, clocking a very respectable 1:48:40. Sara Elliott (F60) and Fiona Norris (F50) took on the challenge of the Spring Larmer Half marathon and showing their comradeship, came in at 2:45:37 apiece, giving Sara 4th place in her age category and Fiona 12th in hers. Well done to all three for flying the Frome colours here.

The Chippenham Spring 10 miler was held on 13th March. The 10 mile course started and finished in Monkton Park in the heart of Chippenham and took in the quiet country roads on a mainly flat course. First over the line for Frome was Lynn Brand (Vet 60) in 1:23:28, earning herself 3rd place in her age category. Ben Spicer (Vet 35) followed very closely behind Lynn, in 1:23:35 (29th in his age category). Ellie Burford (Senior), Frome Running Club’s outgoing Chair, finished in 1:24:26, which was 6th in her age category, and Dave Perrett (Vet 40), in his second 10 mile race in 2 weeks crossed the line in 1:30:49, which was 47th in age category. Congratulations to all.
