Stourhead was the setting for a picturesque 10km trail run on Saturday 14 th May. The race starts and finishes under the Stone Arch of the driveway to the house and takes in Stourton village, the lakes and the woodland area outwith the lake. Three Frome runners participated that day, Ted Sprules, Andrew Smallbone and Sarah Smallbone, with Ted leading the way, finishing in a very respectable 44 minutes 42 seconds, earning him first place in his age category. Frome Running Club Celebrates Turning 40!

Another Covid victim has been the opportunity to mark Frome Running Club’s 40 th Anniversary. On 7 th May 2022, one year late (!) the Club pulled out all the stops to celebrate. The day began with a huge contingent of Frome Club runners joining the Park Run at the Old Showfield ground. Even the Race Director was a club member (Emma Evans) as were a good number of marshals (including Rachel Bala, Claire Dunning, Lynn Brand, Justin Worringham and Pete Clardy).   The sun shone and support throughout the race was extraordinary. Club members were met with Prosecco and croissants after they finished –quite a novel way to end a Park Run! Thanks to Anne Porter and Sara Elliott for organising the refreshments. One of the three founding members of Frome Running Club, Alan Berry, can normally be found marshalling first post on Park Run, but on this momentous day, he donned his shirt and participated once more in a race. Frome team members cheered Alan on, Harry Ebdon ran the last 2 laps w

Frome Running Club Race Report late April/early May

On Sunday 24 th April, a small but competitive contingent of Frome runners completed the Corsham 10km event. This race started at the football club, took a route along the edge of Corsham, then headed to the water station following country lanes. A cheeky climb on Pound Pill had to be negotiated before a downhill stretch to the finish back at the rugby club. Ted Sprules (V70) finished second in his age category with a very commendable time of 42:44. With 800m to go, Julie Chilvers (V40) challenged Barrie Knight (V70) to a sprint finish with Barrie just pipping Julie to the post. Barrie secured a time of 50:38 (which was 4th place in his age category), whilst Julie’s time of 50:43 earned her 6 th place in her age category. There were 994 competitors that day and our Frome participants all came in the top third of all finishers; well done Ted, Barrie and Julie.   Ted Sprules, Julie Chilvers and Barrie Knight bask in the Spring sunshine after their success in the Corsham 10km
