Frome Running Club Race Report December 2022

Frome Running Club December Race Report

December’s weather couldn’t deter hardy Frome Running Club Members as they participated in a number of challenging races throughout the month.

On 4th December, a good FRC turnout was witnessed at the Bromham Pudding Run. After a brief warm up from a local Fitness Instructor, the race took place on open roads and through the Bromham area. Keith Vance (M40) was first Fromie home in a time of 43:49 which earned him 20th in age category. Emma Surridge (FV40) had a fantastic run, finishing 2nd in age category in 45:02. Alexander Fisher (MV40) completed the race in 47:12 and Alan Brawn (MV50) crossed the line in 48:29.  Barrie Knight (MV70) added to his winning streak finishing in 50:21; an excellent win in his age category. Julie Chilvers (FV40) and Emma Evans (FV40) finished in 50:35 and 55:12 respectively which gave the women’s team a 4th place ranking for the race. A huge well done to all participants.

Ellie Burford and Jo Fordham represented Frome Running Club at the Baltonsborough 5 Mile Pudding Run on 18th December. Jo (FV45+) came fifth lady overall in a super quick time of 38:28 and Ellie Burford (FV35+) finished in 41:08. Great running ladies.

On Sunday 18th December, Frome Running Club held its annual Jingle Bell Jog Fun Run, starting from the Rugby Club. Club Captain, Lynn Brand had mapped out a 4 mile road and trail run, with participants requested to run with no time pieces and to guess their finish times. Sadly, the roads were deemed as too unsafe to run due to the snow and ice. Instead, club members took in a gentle 5km jog around the perimeter of the rugby club fields and headed back to the Rugby Club for refreshments and a catch up. Ben Spicer was awarded best fancy dress – his Australian Christmas barbeque outfit was the perfect antidote to the awful weather!

On 30th December, Ronan Ferguson, Ian Holmes, Barrie Knight and Lucy Williams all entered the Plain Crazy event, a multi terrain 12.5 mile race, aptly described as hilly, cold, scenic, desolate and windy. Ronan was first home in 01:37:26, Ian Holmes crossed the line next in 01:56:29, then Barrie Knight 02:16:24 and Lucy Williams 02:17:18. All credit to them for completing this race.
