Keith Vance at the Belfast Marathon
Frome runner Keith Vance put the perfect finish on a busy April with a stellar performance at the Belfast Marathon on Saturday 30 April. Keith sped round the streets of his home city, completing the 26.2 miles in an impressive 03:38:19. The following day, two more Frome stalwarts were flying the flag for Frome in Milton Keynes. Famed for being one of the UK’s newest city and home of the concrete cows, Milton Keynes is also host to one of the country’s fastest, flattest marathons. Paul Horton (MV55) completed the route in a speedy 03:19:35 while Ian Holmes (MV55) flew round in 03:47:58. Closer to home, a small contingent of Frome runners lined up for the Sutton Veny 10k trail race. Ted Sprules was first to finish the challenging route in a time of 00:41:12. Hot on his heels was Andrew Smallbone, who posted a time of 00:45:54, followed by Emma Surridge in 00:48:23 (second woman), Julie Chilvers in 00:53:00 and Sarah Smallbone in 00:55:38 (first vet woman).

The racing action continued on Saturday 13 April with the Stourhead 10k, a challenging mixed terrain race with an impressive finish outside Stourhead House. Andrew Smallbone (MV50-59) was the first Frome club runner to finish, posting a time of 00:45:45. Next past the post was Marcus Gaffney (MV50-59) in a time of 00:58:11, followed by Lucy Gaffney (FV50-59) in 01:04:30. Over in Semington, Peter Clardy (MV60+) finished in 00:48:56, earning himself second in age category. Frome Juniors were also out in force at Semington, putting in a great performance in the 2K race. Johnston (U14) was first to cross the finish line in 00:09:54, followed by Allum (U10) in 00:11:53, Antell (U10) in 00:13:24 and Lamb (U10) in 00:15:39. The following day, saw the return of the Great Bristol Half Marathon and 10K races. Jo Fordham donned her red, black and gold Frome jersey in the 10K race and posted an impressive time of 00:46:31. Finally, Sunday 14 May also saw the inaugural Shepton Mallet Runaway Train race, an 8.5-mile challenging trail race with 1200 ft of total climb. Emma Surridge was the first Frome club runner to finish in a time of 01:18:29, followed by Julie Chilvers in 01:28:53, Ellie Burford in 01:28:55 and Clare Dunning in 01:57:00.
