A flying February for Frome Running Club

February got off to a hilly start, with the Doynton Hard Half on 2 February. Two Frome runners took to the starting line of this challenging 13.1-mile trail race. Emma Surridge (FV40) was first to finish in 02:19:22, followed by Ian Holmes (MV50) in 02:39:34.

Frome at The Wiltshire 10
The following Sunday, 9 February, two more Frome runners headed over to Melksham for the Wiltshire 10, a ten-mile road race that follows a gently undulating course through Wiltshire. Alexander Fisher (MV40) crossed the line for Frome first in a speedy time of 01:06:38. Hot on his heels was Claire Bowles (FSEN) who posted a blistering time of 01:09:57.

The Street 5K

Wednesday 12 February saw the next race in the 2024/25 Street 5K series. This edition was the penultimate event in the season, more than enough reason for some of Frome’s finest to put their 5K racing skills to the test. Alexander Fisher (MV40) was again the first Frome runner to finish in a super speedy time of 00:19:06. Daniel Thomson (MSEN) posted another impressive time of 00:20:47, as did Chris Dayman-Johns (MSEN), crossing the line in 00:23:04. 


 

The Terminator
Rounding out the month on Sunday 23 February, were two local classics. Firstly, The Terminator, over in Pewsey, Wiltshire. This challenging, multi-terrain 12-mile course put a number of Frome runners to the test. Dan Gaisford (MV40) raced over the hills to finish first for Frome in 01:45:45. Next across the line was Emma Surridge (FV40) in a time of 02:02:24, followed by Ian Holmes (MV50) in 02:08:55 and Ellie Burford (FSEN) in 02:10:58. Clare Dunning put in a sterling performance, posting a time of 02:19:53, followed by Natalie George (FV40) in 02:27:24. Over in Bath, the Two Tunnels 10K and Half Marathon races were being held in the Devonshire and Combe Down Tunnels also on the 23rd. Claire Bowles (FSEN) continued her speedy performance posting a time of 01:35:22, followed by Sam Baraud (MSEN) in 01:35:22. Club captain Alexander Fisher (MV40) was back in action in the 10K race, crossing the line in an impressive 00:40:31.
