Frome goes full throttle in April

The Yeovilton 5K
April started strong for Frome Running Club with the Bristol Track Club Race Day on Sunday, 6 April at the Odd Down Cycle Track. Alex Fisher (MV45) and Peter Clardy (MV65) both took to the starting line of the 5K race, with Alex posting a time of 00:18:50 and Peter 00:23:30. The following Wednesday, 9 April, saw the start of Yeovilton 5K series. Lining up for race one in the six-race series were Alexander Fisher (MV40), who posted at time of 00:18:17, Daniel Thomson (MSEN), who crossed the line in 00:20:19, followed by David Lee (MV40) in 00:21:06 and Brett Sadler (MV70), whose time of 00:24:47 earned him second in age category.

The Lightning Bolt 10K
The next racing challenge was just a few days later on Sunday, 13 April, with the Langley Burrell Lightning Bolt 10K race on one of the fastest 10K courses in the South West. Alexander Fisher (MV40) finished first for Frome again with a speedy time of 00:39:06, followed by Daniel Thomson (MSEN) in 00:42:48. Barrie Knight (M70) posted a time of 00:49:33, to bag second in age category.

The same day, two Fromies ventured across the border to Wales for the Newport Marathon. Claire Bowles (F35) completed the 26.2-mile route in an impressive 03:37:55, followed by Ian Holmes (MV55) in 03:41:19.

The Newport Marathon

April 16, saw the return of the Easter Max mile, an officially measured and chip-timed one-mile race on the Castle Combe race circuit. Alex Fisher (MV45) again crossed the line first for the club with a time of 00:05:19, followed by David Lee (MV45) in 00:06:02, Benjamin Fisher (U11) in 00:07:40 and Suzanne Ingle (FV40) in 00:08:02. 

Easter Max Mile

The second race in the Wiltshire Road Race League, The Corsham 10K, was held on 27 April. Frome fielded an impressive team for this popular event. Alexander Fisher (MV45) posted a time of 00:39:04, followed by Dan Gaisford (MV40) in 00:40:14, James Arnall-Culliford (MV40) in 00:41:57, David Lee (MV40) 00:44:36, Andrew Smallbone (MV50) in 00:44:37 and Claire Bowles (FSEN) in 00:44:43. Anthony Sprules (MV70) was next to finish in 00:45:34, earning himself first in age category. Ben Spicer (MV40) finished in 00:49:05, followed by Andrew Fowler (MV40) in 00:49:35, Chris Dayman-Johns (MSEN) in 00:49:39, Nicky Thomas (FV50) in 00:50:33 and Clare Dunning (FSEN) in 00:50:44. Barrie Knight (MV70) was next past the post in 00:51:27 for third in age category. Sarah Smallbone (FV50) finished in 00:53:16 followed by Emma Yeo (FV50) in 00:51:15, Julie Chilvers (FV50) in 00:56:19, Paul Goodwin (MV70) in 01:00:08, Rachel Brenni (FV50) in 01:01:22 and Emma Evans (FV50) in 01:00:51. 

The Corsham 10K
27 April was also the day of the London Marathon, and four representatives from Frome made their way to the capital for the big race. Paul Horton (MV55) completed the famous route in 03:14:37, followed by Emma Surridge (FV45) in 04:01:19, Diana Miller (FV40) in 04:29:59 and Chris Chivers (MV40) in 06:07:58.
