Friends, Romans, runners...

Lucy Heath in Rome March continued apace for Frome’s club runners, with local athletes putting in stellar performances near and far. Lucy Heath roamed farthest afield to take part in the Run Rome Marathon on 19 March. With a route that would make Mary Beard proud, runners were taken past a cornucopia of historical landmarks, including the Circus Maximus, Castel Sant’Angelo, St. Peter’s Basilica and the Spanish Steps, before finishing at the Roman Forum. Lucy did the club proud, crossing the finish line in 04:27:09. Neil Grist was flying the flag for Frome closer to home on the same day at the Hullavington 20, a picturesque 20-mile road race held near Chippenham. Nearing the end of his gruelling training for the London Marathon, Neil completed the Hullavington route in an impressive 03:15:30.  The following weekend saw the return of the Bath Skyline series of trail races. Frome runners spring into action

The Bowerhill Bomber  The Baltic temperatures visited on the region during the course of February and March didn’t deter Frome’s hardy runners. With a broad selection of races to choose from, Frome’s club runners put in great performances teams in numerous races both close to home and further afield. Rounding out February was the winter edition of the Bowerhill Bomber. This Melksham-based trail race offers 5k and 10K distances covering country lanes, fields and towpaths. In the 10K race, Andrew Smallbone put in a stellar performance, finishing in 00:45:02 to bag fifth positive overall. Hot on his heel was Ellie Burford, who finished in 00:52:19. Sarah Smallbone represented Frome in the 5k distance and was the fourth female to cross the line with an impressive time of 00:27:16. The Terminator, another perennial favourite in the trail-running calendar, also took place on February 26th. Early February Frome Running Club Race Report

  Frome Running Club February Race Report The ‘Wiltshire 10’ took place on Sunday 12 th February. The race is described as a run over a certified ten mile course, starting from King George V playing fields in Melksham. The circuitous route took runners out round the village of Lacock, before following the River Avon back to Melksham. Frome Running Club was well represented on the day, with some commendable finish times. First home was Paul Horton (MV50) in a time of 1:06:22. He was closely followed by Ronan Ferguson (MSEN) in 1:11:12 and Keith Vance (MV40) 1:11:24. Next was Alexander Fisher (MV40) in 1:17:45 and Alan Brawn (MV50) in 1:23:32 and Barrie Knight (MV60) in 1:23:52. Flying the flag for the ladies was Helen Bakunowicz (FV40) who crossed the line in 1:29:46 and Clare Dunning (FSEN) in 1:44:08.   FROME RUNNING CLUB RACE REPORT – JANUARY 2023 Slaughterford 9 On Sunday 22 nd January, 6 brave and hardy runners from Frome Running Club ran the infamous Slaughterford 9 in extremely cold and icy temperatures (on a weekend that saw all local Park Runs cancelled due to ice!). This is a multi-terrain race over 9 miles of steeply undulating countryside, carrying a sting in its tail! Whilst tackling 900 feet of ascent/descent in the Slaughterford valley, runners encountered tarmac, stony paths, fields, tracks (including underwater tracks) and even some green lanes. First home for Frome was Paul Horton (MV50) who finished in 1:07:52, which earned him 5 th place in his age category. He was followed by Emma Surridge (FV40) in 1:19:54, Ian Holmes (MV50) 1:20:30, Lucy Pearman (FV50) 1:30:03, Lynn Brand (FV60) 1:31:45 and Julie Chilvers (FV40) in 1:33:08. Frome Running Club Race Report December 2022

  Frome Running Club December Race Report   December’s weather couldn’t deter hardy Frome Running Club Members as they participated in a number of challenging races throughout the month. On 4 th December, a good FRC turnout was witnessed at the Bromham Pudding Run. After a brief warm up from a local Fitness Instructor, the race took place on open roads and through the Bromham area. Keith Vance (M40) was first Fromie home in a time of 43:49 which earned him 20th in age category. Emma Surridge (FV40) had a fantastic run, finishing 2 nd in age category in 45:02. Alexander Fisher (MV40) completed the race in 47:12 and Alan Brawn (MV50) crossed the line in 48:29.   Barrie Knight (MV70) added to his winning streak finishing in 50:21; an excellent win in his age category. Julie Chilvers (FV40) and Emma Evans (FV40) finished in 50:35 and 55:12 respectively which gave the women’s team a 4 th place ranking for the race. A huge well done to all participants.   Emma...

November Race Running Report

  Frome Running Club November Running Report November was a busy month for Frome Running Club. Apart from the weekly training sessions, club members participated in a number of events far and wide. Over the Hills was a multi terrain race (including a river crossing) over 12km which was held on Sunday 6 th November. Paul Horton completed the course in 57:36, Lynn Brand (vet 60) finished in 1:21:11, giving her 11 th in age category and Zoe Daly (Senior) crossed the line in 1:20:31. On Sunday 20 th November 3 members of Frome Running Club took part in the ‘Chilly 10km’. This is a 10km race run over a flat, smooth running surface on the famous Castle Combe race circuit.   FROME RUNNING CLUB OCTOBER RACE REPORT October has been a very busy month for Frome Running Club members who have competed in a number of races across the country, covering various distances and terrains. On October 30 th , Lynn Brand and Rachel Bala completed a 10 mile race entitled The Stickler. This involved tackling the infamous Stickle Path and ascending three peaks along the Stour Valley. Lynn finished in 1:49:25 and Rachel in 1:56:36.
